SURFING

Jupiter, Florida holds a unique position for surfers, offering clear, blue waters due to its southern location while avoiding the obstruction of the Bahamas thanks to its northern latitude. With consistent waves and a variety of surf breaks, Jupiter is a surfer's paradise.

Jupiter's beach offers a range of surf breaks that cater to different swell directions, period and wind conditions. The most popular surf break is the Juno Beach Pier which is considered one of the more high-performance waves in the area. It can handle large swells with longer periods without closing out or becoming too drifty.

Both sides of the pier can break depending on the swell. Similar to most piers with decent surf breaks and ample parking, Juno pier can get crowded, especially during a good swell. However, there are several other surf breaks nearby within walking distance where one can find a decent wave and empty lineup.

Adjacent to the pier is another popular beach called Marcinski that also has ample parking and decent sand bars. Moving North from here, we find ourselves in a stretch of beach referred to by the locals as "kite beach" due to the many kite surfers that frequent the area. These beaches spanning from Marcinski to Carlin Park to the North are better for smaller, more disorganized waves where you can find a fun, punchy inside wedge. But the sandbars change quite a bit so you may need to drive around to find a good spot. Here's a shot of a punchy little inside wave

At the North end of the Jupiter beaches you'll find Carlin park and the Jupiter Inlet Park, adjacent to DuBois Park. Carlin park offers a softer, mushier wave better for longboarders and those learning how to surf but tends to not become too crowded. Jupiter inlet offers some protection for days where there is a ripping North wind but the sandbar has not been very good in recent years due to constant dredging.

Finally, North of the inlet is a park called Coral Cove Park. Coral cove has mostly rock bottom and due to the structure of the bottom and sandbars, tends to only break on the outside, rocky sandbar. Because of this, it needs a larger swell or the rides will be short and mushy. However, with the right swell it can offer some great, rippable waves.

Visitors beware: there are many rocks with dangerous pot holes right next to the shore. Proceed with caution!
